Florence, oh Florence não páras de me surpreender. Seria de esperar que um poder vocal destes viesse a cansar, mas não. Deveria existir um Florence and the Machine anónimos para ver se desintoxicava. Felizmente enquanto não há vou-me viciando nesta deliciosa tentação.
Swimming é uma nova música (bem, aparentemente não é nova pois acho que foi publicada na edição de luxo de Lungs) que os rapazes da Neon Gold divulgaram hoje. Parece encaixar perfeitamente no álbum de estreia da banda britânica: assombrosamente bonita, como não poderia deixar de ser.
Florence, oh Florence you don’t stop to amaze me. One would expect a vocal power like this would get you tired, but no. There should be an Florence and the Machine anonymous so I could detoxify. Fortunately while there isn’t I’ll keep getting hooked in this delicious temptation. Swimming is a new song (well, apparently not that new because I think it was published in the deluxe edition of Lungs) that the boys on the Neon Gold shared today. It seems to fit perfectly on the british band’s debut album: hauntingly beautiful, as it should be.

Cada vez mais me convenço que não há nada como a pop sueca. Mesmo a australiana não tem o toque de magia da sensibilidade escandinava que faz com que cada música derreta nos ouvidos como marshmallows.
David Borkmann é um promissor novo produtor da costa Oeste da Suécia. O EP Mercury é a primeira release a solo do artista. Mercury e Superior, que podem ser ouvidos em baixo, brilham como dois raios de luz neon com as batidas dreamwave luxuriantes que nos habituaram colectivos como o francês Valerie. A voz de David no primeiro tema, é pura sensualidade que nos prende desde a primeira nota com um sorriso estampado na cara, enquanto a cadência galáctica de Superior, faz-nos viajar num ritmo de dança inebriante.
I am more and more convinced that there is nothing like Swedish pop. Even the Australian doesn’t have the magic touch of the Scandinavian sensitivity that makes every song melt like marshmallows in your ears. David Borkmann is a promising new producer from the West Coast of Sweden. The Mercury EP is his the first solo release. Mercury and Superior, which can be heard bellow, shine as two beams of neon light with it’s luxuriant Dreamwave beats we are used to hear in the sound of French collective Valerie. David’s voice in the first song is pure lust that holds you since the very first note with a smile in your face, while the galactic pulse of Superior, makes you travel in a dance of inebriating rhythm.
Finalmente, terminou o jejum. Cá está a nova música dos australianos Cut Copy: Where I’m Going, divulgado no site oficial da banda. O álbum está agendado para Janeiro.

White Magic, o álbum de estreia do sueco Eric Berglund, ex-The Tough Alliance e actualmente conhecido como ceo, tem o poder de nos transportar para um mundo de fantasia. Um género de voodoo para os pés e para a cabeça através de 8 músicas pop emotivas e sonhadoras como só os suecos conseguem fazer. Se num momento nos damos perdidos num bosque em estado contemplativo ao som de violinos celestiais e vocais angelicais (All Around), no momento seguinte passamos para um ritmo de festa frenético povoado por ritmos do Caribe e synths em forma de guitarra (Illuminata) que enchem o ar de oxigénio. Num momento, ouvimos uma mistura de balada pop romântica ao estilo Beatles cantada em registo reggae relaxado com palmas a condizer (Love and Do what you Will), para no outro mergulharmos numa floresta amazónica com palpitações tribais, ritmo jungle de percussão encorpada e synths em transe cruzados com guitarras espanholas (White Magic). Tão depressa somos trovadores empurrados para o centro de uma feira medieval com acordes de violoncelo e violino (Oh God, Oh Dear), como nos vemos rodeados de espadachins mercenários com armas em riste numa balada sobre amor ferido (No Mercy).
Quase no fim, Come With Me, uma soberba canção electro-pop com roupagens anos 80, pautada por uma linha de baixos roucos, ecos e synths cósmicos reminiscentes dos ritmos oníricos dos conterrâneos The Sound of Arrows. Para fechar, um tema na língua materna, o indecifrável Den Blomstertid Nu Kommer, que para mim poderia ter sido cantado pelos Sigur Rós.
Uma coisa é certa. White Magic, editado pela Modular People e à venda aqui, é uma jornada ecléctica e inspirada que dá espaço à imaginação, como qualquer livro ou álbum deveria ser. Um disco onde apetece viver.
White Magic, the debut album from Swedish Eric Berglund, ex-The Tough Alliance and now better known as ceo, has the engaging power to transport us to a world of fantasy. A kind of voodoo to the feet and mind through 8 emotional and dreamy pop songs as only the Swedes can do. If at one moment we’re lost in the woods in a state of deep contemplation to the sound of celestial violins and angelic vocals (All Around), the next we escape to a frenetic party populated by Caribbean rhythms and guitar-shaped synths (Illuminata) that fill the air with oxygen. One moment we hear a mix of romantic Beatles-pop style ballad in a relaxed reggae jam and matching handclaps (Love and Do What You Will) and the other we dive in a amazonic rainforest with tribal pulses and jungle beats of voluminous drums and synths in state of trance crossed with Spanish guitars (White Magic). In one second you get pushed as a troubadour into the middle of a medieval fair with chords of cello and violin (Oh God, Oh Dear), and in the next instant you see yourself surrounded by mercenary swordsmen with guns drawn in a ballad about wounded lovers (No Mercy). Near the end, Come With Me, a superb electro-pop song with 80s clothing, ruled by a thick bass line, echoes and cosmic synths reminiscent of the dreamy rhythms of The Sound of Arrows. To close, a theme in Berglund’s mother language, the indecipherable Blomstertid Nu Kommer Den, which I think could’ve been sung by Sigur Rós. One thing is certain. White Magic, edited by Modular People and sold here, is an eclectic and inspired journey that gives room for imagination, as any book or album should do. An album that makes you wanna live in.

A quatro dias de uma magnífica viagem pelo Cambodja e Vietname, o meu estado de espírito hoje chega nas batidas do DJ Andre Anjos, mais conhecido por RAC, para o belíssimo Sweet Disposition dos australianos Temper Trap. Um boa escape para quem já está cansado da versão original. Um tratamento polvilhado com uma fina linha de baixo e sintetizadores suaves que potenciam mais ainda a incrível voz de Dougie Mandagi.
E para não dizerem que não sou amigo, fica uma tonelada de remisturas aditivas deste colectivo de artistas para curtirem como se não houvesse amanhã.

Descrito como ’Madonna com uma pila… mas com a voz de Simon le Bon’, pelo próprio Nike Rodgers, pioneiro da música Disco com a sua banda legendária Chic e produtor de Madonna e Duran Duran.
O cantor acaba de publicar o contagiante novo single Just Can’t Sleep pela editora francesa Abracada, que demonstra o seu amor por NY nos final dos anos 70 e início de 80, tempo em que a cidade vivia numa terrível confusão mas preservava um estilo de liberdade e glamour decadente.
The sound of The Aikiu has a touch of shimmering pop infested with new wave, influenced by Roxy Music, David Bowie and a hint of Chic. Described as’ Madonna with a dick … but with the voice of Simon le Bon ‘, by the Nike Rodgers himself, a pioneer of disco with his legendary band Chic and producer of Madonna and Duran Duran. The singer has just released the new contagious single Just Can’t Sleep on french label Abracada, which shows his love for NY in the late ’70s and early ’80s, a time when the city was in a terrible mess but still preserved a style of freedom and decadent glamour. The official video directed by Alex Giomo and the single accompanied by remixes from Egyptrixx, Azari & III, Mighty Mouse and Clement Meyer can be seen and heard below.
Pilooski e Pentile, a dupla francesa que dá pelo nome de Discodeine acaba de editar Singular, tema electro-pop emocional de batidas jungle e synths melódicos liderado por Matias Aguyo na voz.
A dupla prepara-se também para lançar o longa-duração no final do ano, que conta com colaborações de Jarvis Cocker, Matias Aguayo e Baxter Dury. O EP Singular inclui remisturas de It’s A Fine Line, Das Glow e o próprio Pilooski e pode ser encontrado na D.i.r.t.y ou aqui.

The boys of Lefse Records have sent me the Young at Love and Life EP by the new indie-pop duo Dominant Legs, formed by Ryan Lynch (of Girls) and Hannah Hunt. The San Francisco-based duet writes glittering ballads and blurred-out nostalgic pop songs, infused in the mist of hot summer mornings by the sea. The songs ‘Young at Love and Life’ or ‘About My Girls’ are moments of pure bliss, sincere and dance-y pop songs to listen slowly to the sound of Lynch and Hunt’s innocent voices and their dusty lo-fi guitars and keys. Perfect jams to a summer soundtrack. Young at Love and Life hits the streets on August 17th.
