Hoje, ao vasculhar as mensagens do myspace reparei numa nova entrada. Qual foi a minha surpresa quando descobri este Robots With Rayguns, projecto do produtor/remixer sediado em Baltimore, Lucas Patrick Smith. Apesar de ter uma página de Soundcloud recheada de remisturas viciantes de Lady Gaga a Daft Punk, passando por Chromeo, Nightwaves ou Lilly Allen, prontinhas para fazerem uma festa nos meus ouvidos, foi o synth-pop original de Sugarbaby que me prendeu a atenção.

Sugarbaby é como um portal no tempo que me empurrou em passo de dança para plena década de 80, em formato de cassette dream-wave com synths luminosos em cores neon, percussão em ritmo new-wave vertiginoso e vocais açucarados de cyborg retro-futurista, quentes e estranhamente reminiscentes de hits passados. Essência de Verão servida numa bandeja.

Today when I was searching  my myspace inbox I’ve noticed a new entry. What was my surprise when I discovered this Robots with Rayguns, a project from Baltimore based producer/remixer Luke Patrick Smith. Despite having a Soundcloud page full of addictive kick-ass remixes of Lady Gaga to Daft Punk, Chromeo to NightWaves or Lilly Allen, ready to have a ball on my ears, it was the original synth-pop  Sugarbaby that really held my attention. Sugarbaby is like time portal that pushed me back into the 80s in my best dance moves, in a cassette-shaped dream-wave with luminous synths in bright neon colors, percussion in a dizzying new-wave rhythm and retro-futuristic cyborg sugary vocals, hot and strangely reminiscent of past hits. Summer essence served on a tray.
