Aqueles que acompanham este blog sabem que não sou grande fan de hip hop. Mas tem havido alguns nomes que me têm feito virar a cabeça como Drake, The Weeknd ou esta banda que conheci hoje os We Are Rebels (W.A.R.).

A dupla de Atlanta, formada por Fluent e Joshua ultrapassam os clichés da bitches e do bling bling, para criar hip hop de infusão electrónica com vocais ultra-sedutores, samples temperamentais. O novo EP The Influence. é um showcase de canções emotivas e quimicamente alteradas, mergulhadas em sub-graves densos de dubstep e linhas de rap soltas em resquícios de ressaca.

Those who follow this blog know that I am no big fan of hip hop. But there have been some names that have made me turn my head like Drake, The Weeknd or this band that I met today We Are Rebels (W.A.R). The Atlanta duo, comprised of Fluent and Joshua go beyond the clichés of bitches and bling bling, to create electronic infused hip hope with ultra-seductive vocals and temperamental  samples. The new EP The Influence. is a showcase of chemically altered emotional songs, dipped in dense dubstep sub-basses and rap lines flowing from  hungover vestiges.

Os Villa Cola são um trio londrino composto por Ranya Dubé (voz), Paul Bateman (baixo) e Alex Watson (bateria). Fortemente influenciados pelo pelo e rock dos anos 80, a banda conseguiu moldar esta memorabilia vintage em peças de arte únicas de intensa atitude punk, estilismos vocais rock e uma batida omnipresente de synths carregados. Imaginem a irreverência sexy e frieza desprendida dos Blondie com o galanteio lânguido dos Roxy Music e a pulsação digital dos New Order. Qualquer coisa por aí, mas com uma abordagem nova, fresca e estimulante potenciada pela ultra sensual voz de Ranya e assente num produção de electrónica lo-fi pegajosa, guitarras salivantes e percussão propulsora.

A banda lançou dois EP’s de 5-faixas, Villa Cola e o mais recente She, totalmente gratuitos e disponíveis aqui. Fiquem com alguns dos temas e vídeo realizado por Emmyland e um par das melhores canções.

Villa Cola are a London-based trio consisting of Ranya Dubé (vocals), Paul Bateman (bass) and Alex Watson (drums). Strongly influenced by the ’80s punk and rock movement, the band has managed to fuse this vintage memorabilia in unique artworks made with an intense punk attitude, rock vocal stylings and an ubiquitous hard hitting synth beat. Imagine Blondie’s sexy irreverence and cold restraint, with Roxy Music’s languid gallantry and New Order’s digital pulse. Something like that, but with a totally new, fresh and stimulating approach, enhanced by Ranya’s ultra-seductive vocals and laid on bright lo-fi electronic production, mouth-watering guitars and propulsive drums. O quinteto indie-pop de Sydney, WIM, publica hoje o seu álbum homónimo pela Modular. Do aguardado álbum de estreia já conhecíamos os idílicos Colossus e See You Hurry (vejam o vídeo aqui). Para celebrar a ocasião a banda está a oferecer uma deliciosa remistura pelo meu favorito Twin Shadow. Aproveitam também para ouvir todo o disco.

Sydney indie-pop quintet WIM, tis releasing today their self-titled album on Modular. A banda canadiana adorada como deuses Arcade Fire vão lançar uma edição deluxe do magistral The Suburbs, juntamente como o filme de 30 minutos From the Suburb, realizado por Spike Jonze, e duas faixas inéditas: Speaking in Tongues, ao lado do mítico vocalista dos Talking Heads, David Byrne, e Culture War. Worshiped-like-Gods canadian band Arcade Fire, will release a deluxe edition of the sublime album The Suburbs along with a Spike Jonze-directed 30-minute film ‘From the Suburb’ and two new songs: ‘Speaking in Tongues’, next to the legendary Talking Heads’ vocalist David Byrne, and ‘Culture War’. O artista desafiador de géneros de Washington DC, Skai Nine, acaba de publicar mais um álbum. Jasmine, é definitivamente mais chill/melódico que o anterior Soundgun. Washington DC-based genre-bending artist, Skai Nine, has just released another album. ‘Jasmine’ is definitely more chill/melodic than the previous ‘Soundgun’. You can thank the warm weather for that. Victor Ferreira, aka Sun Glitters, enviou-me o seu mais recente EP com a cantora folk Steffaloo e Bermuda Bonnie, Think Twice. Uma coisa vos digo, este rapaz torna impossível tocarmos com os pés no chão antes que cada uma destas músicas acabe. Há semelhança de singles anteriores como Things Are…, Everything Could Be Fine ou Cosmic Oceans, este EP de 2 faixas, Drenched e Believe, volta mexer-se em terrenos movediços ritmos vaporosa, ensopada em sol e luminosidade, com elementos electrónicos dissonantes, sons dubstep, clicks e clacks como ossos, dinheiro chocalhado, texturas translúcidas de vozes aladas e batidas digitais ondulantes, distorcidas e perdidas em ecos. Victor Ferreira, aka Sun Glitters, sent me his latest EP featuring folk singer Steffaloo and Bermuda Bonnie, titled ‘Think Twice’. One thing I tell you, this guy makes it impossible to touch with the feet on the ground while these songs are playing. Like in previous singles such as ‘Things Are…’, ‘Everything Could Be Fine’ or ‘Cosmic Oceans’, this two-track EP, ‘Drenched’ and ‘Believe’, moves in quicksands of vaporous rhythms, drenched in sun and luminosity, with dissonant electronic elements, dubstep sounds, bone-ish ‘clicks’ and ‘clacks’, rattled pocket money, see-through textures of winged voices and distorted swirling digital beats lost in echoes. Box Codax é o projecto a solo de Nick McCarthy, a sua mulher Manuela Gernedel e Alex Ragnew. Alguns poderão reconhecer McCarthy como o homem da guitarra dos Franz Ferdinand. O seu novo álbum Hellabuster foi parcialmente produzidos pelos Metronomy e é talvez um dos mais extravagantes e coloridos projectos rock/folk dos dias que correm. Imaginem Zappa em estúdio com os Arcade Fire e Roy Orbinson. Hellabuster, que junta rock cru e melodias melancólicas já está disponível na Gomma.

Box Codax is the solo project of Nick McCarthy, his wife Manuela Gernedel and Alex Ragnew. Some might recognize McCarthy as the man behind the guitar of Franz Ferdinand. His new album ‘Hellabuster was partly produced by Metronomy and is perhaps one of the most extravagant and colorful rock / folk projects of these days.
