O cantor acaba de publicar o contagiante novo single Just Can’t Sleep pela editora francesa Abracada, que demonstra o seu amor por NY nos final dos anos 70 e início de 80, tempo em que a cidade vivia numa terrível confusão mas preservava um estilo de liberdade e glamour decadente.
The sound of The Aikiu has a touch of shimmering pop infested with new wave, influenced by Roxy Music, David Bowie and a hint of Chic. Described as’ Madonna with a dick … but with the voice of Simon le Bon ‘, by the Nike Rodgers himself, a pioneer of disco with his legendary band Chic and producer of Madonna and Duran Duran. The singer has just released the new contagious single Just Can’t Sleep on french label Abracada, which shows his love for NY in the late ’70s and early ’80s, a time when the city was in a terrible mess but still preserved a style of freedom and decadent glamour. Pilooski e Pentile, a dupla francesa que dá pelo nome de Discodeine acaba de editar Singular, tema electro-pop emocional de batidas jungle e synths melódicos liderado por Matias Aguyo na voz.
A dupla prepara-se também para lançar o longa-duração no final do ano, que conta com colaborações de Jarvis Cocker, Matias Aguayo e Baxter Dury. O EP Singular inclui remisturas de It’s A Fine Line, Das Glow e o próprio Pilooski e pode ser encontrado na D.i.r.t.y ou aqui.
Pilooski and Pentile, the French duo that goes by the name of Discodeine have just released Singular, an emotional electro-pop theme filled with jungle beats and melodic synths led by Matthias Aguyo on vocals. The duo is also preparing to edit the full-length at the end of the year, featuring Jarvis Cocker, Matias Aguayo and Baxter Dury. The boys of Lefse Records have sent me the Young at Love and Life EP by the new indie-pop duo Dominant Legs, formed by Ryan Lynch (of Girls) and Hannah Hunt. The San Francisco-based duet writes glittering ballads and blurred-out nostalgic pop songs, infused in the mist of hot summer mornings by the sea. The songs ‘Young at Love and Life’ or ‘About My Girls’ are moments of pure bliss, sincere and dance-y pop songs to listen slowly to the sound of Lynch and Hunt’s innocent voices and their dusty lo-fi guitars and keys. Perfect jams to a summer soundtrack. Young at Love and Life hits the streets on August 17th.

Os ingleses Clock Opera, que assinam pela editora francesa Maman Records, são uma visita regular por aqui. Ainda há umas semanas apresentei o teaser do vídeo de A Piece of String, música que explora a relação entre um ventríloquo e o seu boneco através de um ritmo frenético enrolado em mil fios de bleeps electrónicos, samples caseiros, retalhos de sons de guitarras estridentes e electrodomésticos que acariciam uma voz invulgarmente carregada de melancolia e mágoa.
O EP digital A Piece of String foi finalmente publicado ontem com remisturas de Mickey Moonlight, Plaisir de France e Magnetse pode ser encontrado aqui.Moonlight agarrou no original e submergiu-o num poço de batidas fantasmagóricas drum’ n ‘bass, guitarras sobrenaturais e a voz suave de Guy Connelly a soar como um lamento do coração.
British band Clock Opera, from french label Maman Records, are a common visitor around here. Still a few weeks ago I brought the teaser for ’A Piece of String’ video, a music that explores the relationship between a ventriloquist and his dummy in a frenetic pace wrapped in a thousand strands of electronic bleeps, homemade samples and a patchwork of screaming guitars and appliances that caress an unusual voice loaded with melancholy and grief. The digital A Piece of String EP was finally released yesterday with remixes by Mickey Moonlight, Plaisir de France and Magnets. and you can find it here. Moonlight grabbed the original and submerged it in a pool of ghostly drum ‘n’ bass beats, unearthly guitars and made the crooning voice of Guy Connelly sound like a heartbreaking moan.

O título deste post diz tudo o que nos apetece fazer depois de ouvir os londrinos Sandi Sirocco. Tive a sorte de receber a música desta banda de carisma genuíno no meu mail e que surpresa! Disco sound com uma boa dose de purpurina e pura insanidade. Se ainda há bandas que se divertem com a música que fazem, os Sandi Sirocco são certamente uma delas. E isso percebe-se nos incríveis vídeos lo-fi de Dancing, Dancing, Dancing, Dancing, Vanity & Shame ou I Want Fun.
A sério, não consigo ouvir isto sem ficar com um sorriso estúpido na cara. Noah Dias-Rubez (vocals, spanish guitar), Susi Shimko (vocals, electronics), Zanni Vallas (vocals, percussion) e Johnston Sheard (vocals, keyboards, producer) dão corpo a este quarteto electrónico composto por um meio-espanhol, um meio-grego, um meio-crimeano (Ucrânia) e um produtor escocês.
O grupo combina os ritmos vibrantes do Computer Disco e do Synthpop, com uma actualização bem conseguida do electro moderno e do R’n'B, com letras inspiradas nas Divas europeias da década de 60 e 70. O resultado é uma mistura de Daft Punk com as raparigas dos Abba sob efeito de mescalina (muito mais divertidas do que eram), com ritmos reminiscentes de La Roux,Deee Lite ou Music Go Music e roupagens decadent-chic disco queen com excesso de brilhos dourados reluzentes. Uma mistura ecléctica que sabe bem ouvir e dançar e que não tarda a rebentar na blogosfera.

The title of this post says everything we feel like doing after listening to London-based Sandi Sirocco. I was fortunate to receive the music of this band of genuine charisma in my e-mail and what a surprise! Disco sound with a large dose of glitter and pure insanity. If there’s still bands that have fun with the music they make, Sandi Sirocco is certainly one of them. And that you can easily perceive on the incredible lo-fi videos of Dancing, Dancing, Dancing, Dancing, Vanity & Shame or I Want Fun. Seriously, I can’t hear it without getting a stupid smile on my face. Noah Dias-Rubez (vocals, Spanish guitar), Susi Shimko (vocals, electronics), Zanni Vallas (vocals, percussion) and Johnston Sheard (vocals, keyboards, producer) embody this electronic quartet formed by an half-Spanish, an half-Greek, an half-Crimean (Ukraine) and a Scottish producer. The group combines the vibrant rhythms of Computer Disco and Synthpop with a powerful update of modern electro and R’n'B, and lyrics inspired by the European Divas of the 60s and 70s. The result is a mix of Daft Punk with the girls from Abba on mescaline (much more fun than they were), with rhythms reminiscent of La Roux, Deee Lite or Music Go Music and decadent-chic disco queen clothing with excessive glare of shining gold.
