Chamam-se Redondo Beach, escandinavos que elegeram a cidade costeira da Califórnia como musa inspiradora (assim como Patti Smith ou Morrissey), para canções orgânicas douradas por elementos baleáricos e batidas chillwave sonolentas e vibrações lounge relaxadas para ouvir e sonhar com namoros de Verões passados. Just a little bit of history repeating. A mysterious Swedish band in search of sun and skinny dipping in warm crystal waters, creating idyllic soundscapes of palm trees swaying in the wind, colorful cocktails in the hand and slowly savored hot days. They call themselves Redondo Beach, Scandinavian who elected California’s coastal city as muse (like Patti Smith or Morrissey), for producing organic golden songs with Balearic elements and sleepy chillwave beats, along with relaxed loungey vibes to listen and dream of past summer lovers. O seu primeiro single, Drop Me a Line, já tinha sido incluído na lista dos Top 2009 na página do DJ Tim Sweeney. Este ano, o colectivo disco-house de Brooklyn, formado por três membros anteriores dos Hercules & Love Affair: Andrew Raposo, Morgan Wiley e Carter Yasutake, juntamente com Tiffany Roth, Caito Sanchez, Nick Roseboro, Jason Disu e Max Goldman, volta a rebentar no radar com o hipnótico Beam Me Up. O single, incluído no EP editado pela Permanent Vacation, com remisturas de Jacques Renault, The Loving Hand (a.k.a Tim Goldsworthy) e Gavin Russom, soa a um clássico space-disco intemporal, que funde percussão tribal com baixos funk pegajosos, teclados reluzentes e vocais soul cheios de emoção para dançar de olhos fechados.

This year, Brooklyn’s disco-house collective, formed by three past members of Hercules & Love Affair: Andrew Raposo, Morgan Wiley and Carter Yasutake, along with Tiffany Roth, Caito Sanchez, Nick Roseboro, Jason Disu and Max Goldman, hits the radar once more with the hypnotic song Beam Me Up. O polémico álbum de Kanye West, My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, depois de ter arrecadado nota máxima na Pitchfork e considerado por muitos o disco do ano, continua a dar cartas. Depois do vídeo de 34 minutos para Runaway, chega a versão completa do vídeo para Monster, realizado por Jake Nava, que reúne um Hall of Fame invejável (Jay-Z, Rick Ross, Bon Iver, Nicki Minaj) numa mansão assombrada com corpos mortos espalhados por todos os cantos. Embora não seja um fan de Hip Hop, o álbum até está bastante bom, com colaborações impecáveis e uma produção irrepreensível. Até o ouviria mais vezes, se a figura egocêntrica do cantor não me irritasse tanto. O disco pode ser comprado aqui.
Kanye West’s controversial new album, My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, after having collected the maximum score on Pitchfork and considered by many to be the best album of the year, is on the spotlight once again. After a 34 minutes long video for Runaway, here’s the full version of Monster’s video, directed by Jake Nava, which brings together an enviable Hall of Fame (Jay-Z, Rick Ross, Bon Iver and Nicki Minaj) in a haunted mansion packed with dead bodies in every corner. Although I’m not a big fan of hip hop, the album is pretty good, with impeccable collaborations and an flawless production. I would hear more often if egocentric character of the artist didn’t annoy me so much. The album is out here.
Halls é o projecto a solo de Samuel Howard, músico sediado no sul de Londres, que combina samples electrónicos em loop com vocais dispersos. Cada canção está profundamente submersa em sons densos em reverb e sentimentos de nostalgia dorida. Tentativas lo-fi de evasão e intimismo em arranjos sonoros delicados de elasticidade aquática. Halls is Samuel Howard’s solo project, a south London-based musician, combining looped electronic samples with sparse vocals, each song deeply submerged in dense reverb and feelings of soar nostalgia. Lo-fi attempts of evasion and intimism in arrangements in delicate sound arrangements of aquatic elasticity. Meet the young producer’s work here, which includes remixes for Bloc Party and Gold Panda.
