Os Soft Metals são uma dupla natural de Portland, Oregon, formada pelo casal romântico Patricia Hall e Ian Hicks. Psychic Driving é o primeiro single retirado do álbum de estreia homónimo com data de publicação a 19 de Julho pela Captured Tracks. Um magnífico casamento entre a voz cristalina de Hall com os synths cinemáticos e temperamentais de inclinação 80′s de Hicks que me recordam as melodias maravilhosas dos M83. Oiçam mais música aqui.

Soft Metals are Portland, Oregon based duo, formed by romantic couple Patricia Hall and Ian Hicks. ‘Psychic Driving’ is the first single from their self-titled debut album due out on July 19th via Captured Tracks. A wonderful marriage between Hall’s crystalline voice with Hicks’ moody and cinematic synths with a 80′s twist which reminds me the wonderful melodies of M83. Listen to more music here.

Os Expo são uma nova banda natural de Ghent, Bélgica, que fazem parte de um projecto de DJ belgas bem conhecidos (não revelada até agora). A primeira música conhecida I Don’t Mind, inspira-se no synth-pop da década de 80, com uma batida digital cósmica vintage e levemente nostálgica, apesar de efusiva e iluminada, sobre uma voz absurdamente sexy. Parece-me que vamos ouvir falar muitos destes rapazes nos próximos meses. Agarrem I Don’t Mind de graça em troca de um Like no facebook.

Expo, the new Ghent-based band from Belgium, are also part of a rather well-known belgian dj-formation (not revealed yet). The first song called ‘I Don’t Mind’, gets it’s inspiration on 80′s synth-pop era, with a slightly nostalgic vintage cosmic digital beat, despite bing effusive and luminous, over an absurdly sexy voice. O duplo single Illuminated/Better Than Love saiu a 2 de Maio com remisturas de Freemasons, Death in Vegas e Burns. Illuminated recebeu agora um vídeo filmado ao vivo, que podem ver em baixo.

80′s electro-pop revivalists Hurts have taken one more single from their magnificent debut album, Happiness. The double-side single Illuminated/Better Than Love dropped on May 2nd with remixes by Freemasons, Death in Vegas and Burns. Illuminated now received a video shot live, which you can see below.

A dupla francesa Jupiter, da qual falei pela primeira vez aqui, estoirou outra vez no radar com a nova canção Saké, incluida na compilação Kitsuné Parisien a ser editada a 21 de Fevereiro. Já a devem ter ouvido há dias na última mixtape de Aeroplane, mas esta música é pura energia de dança atómica, com synths anos 80 possantes, baixos carregados e afro-beat a levantar voo na voz cristalina da vocalista A. French duo Jupiter, which I spoke for the first time here, has hit the radar once more with the new song ‘Saké’, included in Kitsuné Parisien’s compilation due out on February 21. You probably have heard it a couple of days ago on Aeroplane’s latest mixtape, but this song has a pure atomic dance feel, with powerful 80′s synths, heavy basses and afro-beat drums taking off in the crystal clear voice of vocalist A. Join me for a round of saké! The band’s debut album will arrive later this the year. Leandro thanks for the shout out!

Jupiter – Sake

Os australianos Garçon Garçon estão de volta. Lembram-se de “Take Me Out” and “Maybe Tonight”? Os rapazes estreiam finalmente um single, intitulado “Stay In Touch”, mais uma malha electro 80′s para dançar até ficar knock-out. Mas não se deixem enganar pela energia synth-pop incendiária, pois a letra de Nick e Nathan não tem nada para festejar. Fala de um final de relação bem sofrido e melancólico. Parece-me um excelente seguidor a uns Hurts menos dandy, mais melódicos e hedonistas, virados para as pistas de dança. Fiquem atentos ao EP da dupla, agendado para os próximos dias.

Garcon Garcon – Stay In Touch by thisisthemoneyshot

Benny Boeldt é um músico de Baltimore, criador da banda Adventure, mais um exemplo de fusão synth-pop anos 80, com elementos aditivos da era 8-Bit e new wave que puxam como uma força centrífuga nas nossas costas. Feels like Heaven é o primeiro single retirado do mais recente álbum Lesser Known (na Carpark a 21 de Março com hooks electro-pop contagiantes e vocais adocicados, enrolados em synths espaciais e disparos de pistolas laser.

Benny Boeldt is a musician from Baltimore, creator of the band Adventure, another example of 80’s synth-pop fusion with addictive 8-Bit and New Wave elements that pull your back as a centrifugal force. ‘Feels Like Heaven’ is the first single taken from his latest album Lesser Known (on Carpark the 21st March) with electro-pop infeccious hooks and sugary vocals, wrapped  in spacey synths and laser guns.

Eu esbarrei por acaso nos The New Division. O quinteto de LA formado por John Glenn Kunkel (vocais) and Michael Janz (synth, produção), Brock Woolsey (guitarras), Mark Michalski (synths) e Kenny Wells (bateria) segue as pisadas de bandas como New Order, Kraftwerk ou Depeche Mode com uma sonoridade que celebra o synth/electro-pop da década de 80, combinando-o com arranjos electrónicos contemporâneos com influências de Royksopp, Deadmau5, Cut Copy ou Massive Attack. Só pelas referências já podiam prever grandes expectativas. Mas fiquei arrebatado com a qualidade do EP The Rookie, que de rookie não tem nada. Este rapazes têm muita bagagem. O EP de 6 faixas é um rush de adrenalina dreamwave, de synths inter-galácticos que se prendem à cintura e nos abanam cada músculo do corpo, com vocais atmosféricos a la Tesla Boy e um ritmo vintage bombástico que se agarra aos pés e insiste em não sair. Oiçam faixas como Starfield, Health ou Devotion e digam-me se não tenho razão. O EP Rookie pode ser encontrado e ouvido aqui.

I stumbled into The New Division by chance. This LA quintet formed by John Glenn Kunkel (vocals), Michael Janz (synths, production), Brock Woolsey (guitars), Mark Michalski (synths) and Kenny Wells (drums), follows the footsteps of bands like New Order, Kraftwerk or Depeche Mode with a sound that celebrates 80′s synth/electro-pop, combining it with contemporary electronic arrangements with influences from Royksopp, Deadmau5, Cut Copy or Massive Attack. Only for the references we could foresee great expectations. But I was simply overwhelmed with the quality of the EP The Rookie, that’s everything but rookie. These boys are totally pro. The 6-track EP is a rush of Dreamwave adrenaline with inter-galactic synths that cling to the waist and shake every muscle in your body, atmospheric vocals a la Tesla Boy and a bombastic vintage rhythm that grabs your feet and insists on not leaving. Os GAMES foram uma das bandas que se destacou no final de 2010. Mas para mim ainda não tiveram o hype que merecem, por isso aqui vai o meu contributo. Esta dupla de Brooklyn formada por Daniel Lopatin (Oneohtrix Point Never) e Joel Ford (Tigercity),  saltou para o radar com o EP de 3 faixas ‘That We Can Play’. Deste álbum destacam-se os sensacionais Shadows in Bloom ou  Strawberry Skies com os talentos vocais de Laurel Halo, um tema de inspiração 80′s descarada, picos de funk psicadélico, ambientes sonhadores vintage e um sentimento disco boogie super aditivo.

GAMES were one of the bands that stood out in late 2010. But for me, they haven’t got the hype they deserve, so here’s my humble contribution. This Brooklyn duo consisting of Daniel Lopatin (Oneohtrix Point Never) and Joel Ford (Tigercity), jumped onto the radar with the 3-track EP ’That We Can Play’. In it, I discovered the sensational Shadows in Bloom and Strawberry Skies with the vocal talents of Laurel Halo, a shamelessly 80′s inspired theme, with peaks of psychedelic funk, dreamy vintage ambients and a super addictive Disco Boogie feeling. The ‘That We Can Play’ EP is available on Hippos in Tanks.

Yello Squares é projecto musical do compositor e guitarrista David Portal, um nova-iorquino que mudou para Los Angeles há alguns anos atrás. O artista enviou-me algumas faixas do álbum de estreia Love Gold que me subiram à cabeça como um mojito doce em jejum.

As canções de David transpiram vibrações lounge, longas sessões de contemplação e palmeiras a ondular em brisas quentes de Verão, com texturas ricas de elementos Baleáricos e electro-pop da década de 80, guitarras acústicas, letras com travo a desgosto amoroso e vocais suaves que convidam à preguiça. Safer Than the Rest, a música que mais me fascinou, agarrou-me pelo pescoço com o seu ambiente quente e ligeiramente melodramático, sobre um manto de synths vintage, percussão e pratos funk que não deixam esmorecer o ritmo. Bumblebee, eleva o ritmo de dança lasciva com synths cósmicos a adornar um falsette de língua atrevida, enquanto Was This Really Love volta-se de novo para o conforto da guitarra, num lamento sincero sobre ruptura e separação. Comecem o Verão mais cedo com magnífico álbum Love Gold aqui.
