Star Slinger é o projecto electrónico de Darren Williams. O artista de Nottinghamshire produziu o seu primeiro LP ‘Volume 1’, a partir do conforto da sua cama ou nos primeiros momentos depois de acordar. Remisturas não oficiais para Photojournalist dos Small Black ou Helicopter dos Deerhunter, levaram-no a navegar uma onda de hype e abriram as portas a convites de algumas das suas bandas favoritas como Broken Social Scene, The Morning Benders ou The Go! Team.

Darren também colaborou com o texano Teams, com o qual lançou o EP Teams Vs Star Slinger na Mexican Summer, e com Emay (Rapper/Producer de Toronto) e Blackbird Blackbird (artista Dream-Pop San Francisco), chamada Seeing Suge e que retrata a mescla sonora que o define. Algo reminiscente dos estelares The Avalanches, a música de Star Slinger funde retalhos de hip-hop com elementos electrónicos fractais cheios de sol e luz, samples vintage de fino recorte desde o soul ou shoegaze e sintetizadores mais leves que o ar.

Agendado para início de 2011 está o álbum ‘Volume 2: Jetpack Jam’, actualmente em produção. Star Slinger is the electronic project of Darren Williams. The Nottinghamshire-born artist has produced his first LP ‘Volume 1 ‘, from the comfort of his bed or in the first moments after waking. Unofficial remixes for Small Black ‘s Photojournalist or Deerhunter’s Helicopter, drag him into a huge hype wave and opened the doors for some invitations from his favorite bands like Broken Social Scene, The Morning Benders and The Go! Team. Darren also formed a collaboration with Texas-based Teams, with whom he released the Teams Vs Star Slinger EP on Mexican Summer;with Emay (Rapper / Producer from Toronto) and Blackbird Blackbird (Dream-Pop artist from San Francisco), called Seeing Suge that portrays the sound mix that defines him. Somehow reminiscent of the stellar band The Avalanches, the music of Star Slinger blends snippets of hip-hop with fractal electronic elements filled with sun and light, delicate clips of vintage samples from soul to shoegaze and lighter than air synths. Toro y Moi vê assim mais uma brilhante versão para o já quase perfeito Still Sound, recheado de ambientes espaciais e divagações digitais cósmicas (mp3 disponível aqui). O primeiro single oficial de Ladydisco, More Tigers, sai este ano na Discotexas com remisturas de C90s, In Flagranti, Xinobi e Mirror People.

Eu esbarrei por acaso nos The New Division. O quinteto de LA formado por John Glenn Kunkel (vocais) and Michael Janz (synth, produção), Brock Woolsey (guitarras), Mark Michalski (synths) e Kenny Wells (bateria) segue as pisadas de bandas como New Order, Kraftwerk ou Depeche Mode com uma sonoridade que celebra o synth/electro-pop da década de 80, combinando-o com arranjos electrónicos contemporâneos com influências de Royksopp, Deadmau5, Cut Copy ou Massive Attack. Só pelas referências já podiam prever grandes expectativas. Mas fiquei arrebatado com a qualidade do EP The Rookie, que de rookie não tem nada. Este rapazes têm muita bagagem. O EP de 6 faixas é um rush de adrenalina dreamwave, de synths inter-galácticos que se prendem à cintura e nos abanam cada músculo do corpo, com vocais atmosféricos a la Tesla Boy e um ritmo vintage bombástico que se agarra aos pés e insiste em não sair. Oiçam faixas como Starfield, Health ou Devotion e digam-me se não tenho razão. O EP Rookie pode ser encontrado e ouvido aqui.

I stumbled into The New Division by chance. This LA quintet formed by John Glenn Kunkel (vocals), Michael Janz (synths, production), Brock Woolsey (guitars), Mark Michalski (synths) and Kenny Wells (drums), follows the footsteps of bands like New Order, Kraftwerk or Depeche Mode with a sound that celebrates 80′s synth/electro-pop, combining it with contemporary electronic arrangements with influences from Royksopp, Deadmau5, Cut Copy or Massive Attack. Only for the references we could foresee great expectations. But I was simply overwhelmed with the quality of the EP The Rookie, that’s everything but rookie. These boys are totally pro. The 6-track EP is a rush of Dreamwave adrenaline with inter-galactic synths that cling to the waist and shake every muscle in your body, atmospheric vocals a la Tesla Boy and a bombastic vintage rhythm that grabs your feet and insists on not leaving. Hoje partilho a contagiante remistura space-disco de baixos funk pronunciados da dupla de LA Jump Jump Dance Dance, e o dreamwave inspirado de synths incendiários de Sam La More. O tão esperado álbum, infelizmente, só chega em Setembro.

A few weeks ago I presented here a preview of the new single by Australian band PNAU, The Truth. Today I share LA’s Jump Jump Dance Dance infectious space-disco remix with heavy funky bassline leading  the way, and Sam La More’s uplifting dreamwave version of arsonist synths. Acabei de descobrir um artista de Trento (Itália), Casa del Mirto que me empurrou para memórias de um Verão fantástico a boiar nú num colchão de água em águas azul turquesa. Depois de dois álbuns editados, Supertrendycoolfashion e Numero uno, o produtor mudou o rumo da sua música para ua paisagem sonora mais íntima e introspectiva.

Hoje voltou a consegui-lo com o novo single dos meus favoritos Memoryhouse, Caregiver. A música, como as restantes da dupla, é pura magia calmante, de cores claras e ritmos etéreos que me fez lembrar (matem-me) um bocadinho Cranberries, mas em bom.
